Gwen Cresens

Description

At the age of five, Gwen Cresens discovered the magic of the accordion after hearing a street musician play near Antwerp Cathedral. Twenty years later, he earned a Master’s degree in classical accordion, chamber music, and pedagogy from the Antwerp Conservatory.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists and ensembles, including Arno, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Kommil Foo, Boudewijn De Groot, Henny Vrienten, dEUS, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Les Ballets C de la B, LOD, KVS, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, BOHO Strings, Patrick Riguelle, Luciano Pavarotti, and Ute Lemper.

These collaborations have led him to perform in prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including Flagey (Brussels), Rock Werchter, Dranouter Festival, Cité de la Musique and L’Olympia (Paris), Le Zénith (Paris), Concertgebouw (Bruges), Bozar (Brussels), Konzerthaus (Vienna), Paradiso (Amsterdam), Francofolies (Montreal), The Joyce Theater (New York), and the Southbank Centre (London).

His own projects reflect this diversity, blending influences from various musical worlds. They include the Gwen Cresens Quartet, Orquesta Tanguedia, solo performances, a duo with Philippe Thuriot, and Bruxelles Musette.
