Carmen Guérard

Description

In the ’80s, Carmen decided to take up her father’s accordion and continue the tradition of musical enjoyment. She had the privilege of honing her skills under the guidance of the renowned master of the “small accordion,” Philippe Bruneau. Since then, she has been actively involved in promoting local traditional music, particularly the small accordion.

Carmen mainly performs for traditional dance gatherings across Quebec or public events, occasionally strolling through streets with the TradOrchestre and giving concerts. She has conducted workshops in Europe and the United States, contributing to the international reputation of Quebecois music. In 1998, she participated in the inauguration of a traditional music school in Montreal, the École des arts de la veillée, where she still teaches accordion. In 2023, she was honored with the Aldor Recognition Award at the Trad Montreal festival for her over 25-year career with the EspaceTrad organization and her dedication to the “trad” cause in general.
