About the Museum

A Montmagny landmark, the Musée de l’accordéon is one of the region’s premier cultural and tourist destinations. Its many treasures tell the story of a well-travelled instrument that has been a fixture on the town’s cultural scene for about a century. Housed in the Manoir Couillard-Dupuis, the museum showcases the heritage value of this building that has witnessed so much of Montmagny’s history.

Exhibitions offer visitors of all stripes a fascinating opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of how cultural trailblazers and tradition bearers have shaped accordion music. The museum also features a Kid Zone designed for younger guests.

Be sure to stop by our specialty store, which offers a vast selection of accordion music and related books!

Carrefour de l'accordéon

In 2024, visitors to the Musée de l’accordéon can explore three different exhibitions!

June 18 marks the launch of From La Bolduc to the Cowboys Fringants: The Accordion in Quebec Music. It traces the instrument’s rise on radio and television, and showcases artists who played on songs that have become part of our musical heritage.

Launched in 2021, The Many Sounds of the Accordion! looks at the various cultures and musicians who have made the instrument their own. Learn why the accordion has come to be associated with such a wide range of musical styles. The exhibition also includes a digital experience powered by MySmartJourney

The third exhibition, Totally Traditional!, focuses on the development of the diatonic accordion in Quebec by exploring how instruments were made, who made them, and the important role they played at dances and in family life. The museum invites you to discover a musical culture deeply rooted in Quebec’s traditional heritage.

Kid Zone

Two of our exhibitions feature fun activities! School groups and day camps are also welcome to visit the museum for special programming.

A separate area for youngsters has been open since 2021. They can amuse themselves with puzzles, games and drawing—or listen to music played by budding musicians.
