Description

Born in Figueres in 1976, Cati Plana began her musical studies with the piano. At the age of ten, she came into contact with the diatonic accordion by the hand of Artur Blasco, Francesc Marimon and the old accordionists of the Pyrenees gathered in the Trobades d’Arsèguel. Now, she continues her instrumental training with renown musican across the globe, including Andy Cutting, which will also be performing this year at the CMA.

Commited teacher of diatonic accordion, Cati Plana teaches in numerous schools across spain and Catalonia. She has worked in ethnomusicological research and recently published the fifth volume of the Collection Balls i danses del Pirineu (C.A.T. Edicions).
Throughout the years she performed for many ensembles: Acordionistes del Pirineu, Sol de Nit, duet with Marc Egea, Marsupialis, Tren Seeger and El Pont d’Acalís.
A prolific artist, she is currently part of many projects including Els 3 peus del Gat, Adolfo Osta (New Cd- Primavera) and La Viu-viu (New Cd- Flexūs), l’Orquestra de Músiques d’Arrel de Catalunya – OMAC (New spectacle – Crui), the Cati Plana & Pau Puig’s (Cd – Tretze vares) duet and Clavellina d’Aire with Jordimaria Macaya. Last year, both had recorded the album Músiques per emportar-se a illes desertes (Songs to take to desert islands).

Jordi Maria Macaya studied theatre, puppet manipulation and music in classical (Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona and Conservatori del Liceu), electroacoustic (Fonos) and jazz (Taller de Músics).
He has been part of the Empordà Chamber Orchestra and the Garraf Chamber Orchestra.
He played the viola in the “Indiano String Quartet” and co-founded the baroque music group Ínsula Baratària. He also founded the dance orchestra La Singular and later played in Orquestrina Galana and the Fibonacci Quintet.
Currently, after collaborating with the traditional music group El Pont d’Arcalís, he has joined the group La Viu-viu,(New Cd- Flexūs), and has formed, together with Cati Plana, the duet Clavellina d’aire, (new cd “músiques per emportar-se a illes desertes” (2022).
He currently teaches viola at the Escola i Conservatori de Grau Professional de Música de Vic (Emvic) and violin at the Escola Folk del Pirineu.
